At the end of every season, we consistently hear the same question from Mite and Squirt families: “What opportunities are available locally in Elk River?” While there are strong programs in surrounding communities, they fill quickly, and families are often left searching for options close to home. We recognized that need and felt strongly that our players deserved something right here in our own community. That’s how Northwoods Hockey Club was born.

The greatest gap was at the Squirt level. Mite-aged players have several development options nearby, but as players advance, those opportunities become more limited. We saw firsthand how much our kids loved the Mite programs, many were genuinely disappointed when the season ended. Their enthusiasm and desire to keep skating inspired us. Northwoods Hockey Club was created to continue that excitement, provide ongoing development, and give our athletes the chance to grow, compete, and stay connected to the game they love — all close to home.
